American Red Cross Wayne County Chapter

The American Red Cross has been the leader in aquatics and water safety ever since Commodore Longfellow started his journey across the United States in 1900’s.

 

Teaching people how to be safe in and around water, introducing water safety skills and providing swimming instruction, the Commodore started an exciting time for the public to enjoy water sports. Our Wayne County Chapter’s Learn to Swim Program taught 276 children how to swim and more importantly, how to safely handle themselves around water last year. We also certified 55 lifeguards which are used in all pools throughout the area, and through our close association with the staff at the Wooster Parks and Recreation Department, the Orrville Recreation Department at Orr Pool, and also the Rittman Recreation Department—which boasts a beautiful indoor pool facility. The American Red Cross Learn to Swim program due to the need in the community to allow comprehensive, yet affordable,  swim lessons throughout Wayne County for our children.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2008 Learn to Swim Lessons

 

Session I

 

June 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23 and 24th (5:00 pm to 7:30 pm)

 

             Make-up Dates (Session I) June 25, 27 * If necessary

 

Session II

 

July 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, and 22nd (5:00 pm to 7:30 pm)

 

             Make-up Dates (Session II) July 23, 25 * If necessary

Parent/Child (Ages 9 months—3 years)

 

             Preschool Ages (3—5 years)

 

                          Levels I to VI (School Age)

Cost:

 

             Cost is $28.00 per student (each session). Tuition is due at time of registration. No refunds will be given for missed lessons. Rain dates are built into the above schedule.

 

· Registration must be done in person by Parent/Guardian, due to waiver signatures.

Lifeguard Training

 

Prior to beginning this course, participants are required to be able to swim 500 yards continuously, using the front crawl, breaststroke, and also be able to retrieve a 10 pound brick from the bottom of the deep end of a pool. Water skills, CPR and First Aid will be covered in the course.
