Volunteers are the life blood of the American Red Cross. This is not just some slogan or catch phrase we use. Volunteers lead each and every Chapter in the United States. Volunteers teach classes, coordinate bloodmobiles, counsel disaster victims, respond to emergencies such as tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, fires and terrorist attacks. The American Red Cross could not do what we do without our volunteers! To add some perspective, following the September 11th Terrorist Attacks on the United States, the American Red Cross deployed some 55,000 volunteers and career staff to address the needs of victims, their families, and relief workers in New York, Washington D.C., Pennsylvania and through the country. |

Did You Know:
· It would cost the American Red Cross $16.05 an hour to replace a volunteer with a paid employee · Volunteers comprise 97% of the American Red Cross workforce · More than 4 million Americans, about 1 in every 70, is a blood donor · More than 1 million Americans, about 1 in every 270, is a service volunteer. · Red Cross volunteers include 350,000 youth aged 24 and younger · Nearly 40,000 volunteer nurses, work with the Red Cross |
