Red Cross Health & Safety Director Connie Stutzman presents the Life Saving Award to Morgan Stutzman, who happens to be her niece, who performed first aid techniques on her sister Toni, who was choking in August 2010. |
CPR Training pays off for Sisters Sisters Morgan and Toni Stutzman never thought that the CPR training they received from the Red Cross would pay off so soon in their lives. The day before, the Smithville teens both had taken and were certified in CPR and First Aid through the Red Cross. The following day while at home, 16 year old Toni began choking and fell victim to a seizure. Her 12 year old sister Morgan realized the danger Toni was in and instantly provided back blows. When Toni fell victim to a seizure, Morgan helped ease her sister to the floor and help clear her air way. After several minutes, Toni recovered and was breathing on her own again. Morgan stated that she was sure she would not remember everything she was taught, but having practiced the techniques in the class the skills all came back to her quickly. What made the incident even more important was the class was taught by the sister’s aunt, Connie Stutzman, who is the Health & Safety Director for the Chapter. As Connie stated, “I have always been proud of my nieces - this just gives me another reason to do so!” |
