In 2011, The Twentieth Annual Festival of Trees event will be kicked off for the holiday season with Christmas displays opening to the public on Friday evening, November 18th. Honorary Chairpersons, Mike & Duper Pallotta, from Wooster, will host the Gala Event of invited guests, patrons, sponsors and decorators who can attend a “sneak preview” party. The Gala Opening will once again be sponsored by our good friends at Premier Legacy Bank in Wooster. The Festival of Trees Committee Chairperson is , Phyllis Hackel. The Matthews and the Committee will welcome nearly 200 guests, as they view over 150 displays and auction items at the Wayne County Historical Society.

The Festival Auction night will prove even more exciting as 500 auction guests will bid on all of the items. Food and drinks will be provided by many local restaurants and donors.

The Red Cross goal this year will be $40,000—which is much needed due to limited donations the past few years because of the economy. These monies are so important to the Red Cross, as our traditional funding sources continue to decrease—and the cost of providing our critical services continues to increase.

Over the past five years alone, the American Red Cross has assisted 455 local families—1,359 men, women and children who found themselves involved in some sort of disaster. With the help of this event, we were able to help these families get back on their feet.

Disasters can happen anywhere, with little or no warning, and can affect anyone. When tornadoes strike, floods rise, or we experience power outages, the Red Cross is there ready to respond. Our volunteers put their own needs and situation second—helping people they may be neighbors to, or someone they’ve never met before. Regardless, they are there when disaster victims need help the most.
