Prior to beginning this course, participants are required to be able to swim 500 yards continuously, using the front crawl, breaststroke, and also be able to retrieve a 10 pound brick from the bottom of the deep end of a pool. Water skills, CPR and First Aid will be covered in the course.

American Red Cross Learn to Swim
The American Red Cross has been the leader in Aquatics and Water Safety ever since Commodore Longfellow started his journey across the U.S. in the 1900's.
Teaching people to be safe in, on and around the water by introducing water safety skills and swimming lessons, the Commodore started an exciting time for the public to enjoy water sports. Our Learn to Swim Program taught 276 children how to swim and more importantly, how to safely handle themselves around water during the past summer. We have also certified 58 lifeguards for area swimming facilities through our close associations with the staff at the Wooster Parks and Recreation Department, the Orrville YMCA, and now the new Rittman Recreation Department. The American Red Cross LEARN TO SWIM program began due to the need in the community of comprehensive and affordable swim lessons for our children.
